Rucker, AL and 3 webinars.DOUBLE-HEADER AT ARMY COMMUNITY SERVICES, FT. RUCKER, ALTEN STEPS TO A FEDERAL JOB ANDSTARS ARE LINED UP FOR MILTIARY SPOUSESThe best way to teach federal job search is the combination curriculum. In the morning, Mike Kozlowski, Employment Program Manager and a Certified Ten Steps trainer on Ft. Rucker, provided a 4-hour Ten Steps to a Federal Job workshop. The Ten Steps walked through the hiring process for 30 transitioning tafelgeschirr members and military spouses. In the afternoon I taught a version of the Tips for Military Spouses Seeking Federal Jobs workshop. It was so rewarding to see the light bulbs and Ah-ha moments of the 17 spouses that came back for that session.OVERALL LESSONS LEARNED BY SPOUSES ABOUT FEDERAL JOB SEARCHMilitary spouses rely, in large part, on other military spouses to find direction through the maze of resources. Thats both good and bad since so many of the spouses that came through my workshops had gaping holes in their understanding of how federal jobs work, and what they needed to do to navigate their way into these positions.80% of the spouses in attendance had N EVER heard of E.O. 13473. Only 6% knew how to use the EO for federal job search and had managed to do so. The others were just thoroughly confused as to what to do with this preference that they had heard about.Understanding the Requirements and Specialized Experience in the USAJOBS announcement. A common theme was that the spouses didnt know how to use or feature education in the federal resume. My answer was always one of those light-bulb-inducing moments put your education as a USAJOBS resume job block and not just as a mere mention. Thats a game-changing move for the resume. FEATURING education, instead of MENTIONING education.LIVE USAJOBS Demonstration on how to find the military spouse federal job announcements In the Ft. Rucker class, I demonstrated how to find the military spouse widget on the federal employee announcements. And I explained WHY the federal employee announcements were different than the US Citizen announcements. We found keywords, KSAs and One year Special ized Experience language. Lateral Re-Training in the USMC

Lateral Re-Training in the USMCLateral Re-Training in the USMCMaking the decision to reenlist with the kriegsmarine korporation for another tour isnt always as easy as signing on the dotted line. Even after a seestreitkraft decides to stay for four more, the Corps may have other plans due to some MOSs (jobs) being overfilled or undermanned. It may be possible, however, to turn the seestreitmacht Corps no into a yes. To do this requires you to change. Lateral Move Program The Marine Corps manages the population of military occupational specialties with a predetermined number of slots. Competing for these limited slots, known as boat spaces, sometimes blocks a Marine from staying in the Corps for another term. This is where the seitlich move program can provide a solution. When Marines decide to reenlist, they can either stay in their MOS- if they get a boat space- or they have to make a lateral move if they want to stay in, says Gunnery Sgt. Stuart Morvant, the Corps Manpower Mana gement Enlisted Assignments lateral move chief. If a MOS has no more boat spaces, it is considered closed for re-enlistment. Most Marines are eligible to reenlist one year before their end-of-active-service (EAS) date, but first-term Marines cannot re-enlist until they are in the same fiscal year as their EAS.For example, a Marine whose EAS is May 2006 is not eligible to re-enlist until October 2005, the beginning of fiscal year 2006. First-term Marineshave to be concerned by these boat spaces. There are only a limited number of boat spaces open for first-term Marines in any MOS. When more Marines apply to re-enlist in a MOS thanare boat spaces available, the surplus Marines must find a new job and make a lateral move into a new MOS. The first step in making a lateral move is to visit the career retention specialist. Come with three lateral move choices in your head, said Gunnery Sgt. Charletta R. Anderson, Quanticos career retention specialist. That way, if you dont qualify for a M OS or a MOS is closed, we can fall back on the next choice. When a Marine has only one MOS that (he or she) wants to lat move into, it makes it hard. First-term Marines re-enlisting from a closed MOS may apply to lateral move into any open MOS. They need a better chance of getting their choice if they apply for a MOS with a critical shortfall and a dire need of personnel to fill the ranks. MOS Job List for Lateral Moves Although the shortfalls may vary from year to year, below is a for instance of the type of jobs that may be open and be easy to move into and even receive a nice re-enlistment bonus due to manpower needs 0211 Counter Intelligence Specialist0241 Imagery Analysis Specialist2336 Explosive Ordnance Disposal Technician2823 Technical Controller2834 Satellite Communications Technician4429 Legal Services Reporter (Stenotype)6316 Air Communication/Navigation Systems Technician These MOSs are very demanding, said Morvant. For most of them, you need to conduct an interview before being considered and for some, you need a top secret clearance. In addition to the interviews and clearance level, these undermanned MOSs require high general technical scores from the Armed Services Vocation Aptitude Battery (ASVAB). But do not let low ASVAB scores stop you. Lateral moving into any MOS depends on your qualifications and your ASVAB score, says Capt. Tricia Angelini, First Term Alignment Plan officer. If you want to lateral move and you have a low GT score, retake the ASVAB. Qualifications It is advised for lateral move Marines to take their time on the test and study in advance if they decide to retake the ASVAB. It is easy to not do well on the ASVAB if you do not prepare yourself properly. Once a Marine is deemed qualified for a particular MOS, a Reenlistment/Extension or Lateral Move (RELM) routing sheet is sent through the chain of command. The RELM routing sheet is a discussion sheet to let the chain of command know what the Marine is planning to do, Anderson adds. It states whether or not Marines are medically and dentally qualified, what their last physical fitness test score was, and if they have any pending legal issues. The sheet goes from their staff noncommissioned officer-in-charge to their officer-in-charge and all the way up to the battalion commander. The commanders recommendation is the only one that goes to Headquarters Marine Corps Manpower Enlisted Assignments to make the decision. Although lateral moves are intended to allow first-term Marines whose primary MOS is closed an opportunity to stay in the Corps, there are other situations where a lateral move can be an appropriate career decision. Restructuring or downsizing of a MOS, the phase-out of legacy aircraft and military-to-civilian conversions are some indicators that a Marine would want to look at a lateral move and get a new MOS, says Maj. Mark Menotti, MMEA deputy head. Sometimes Marines try to lateral move because they want a change of pace- something n ew, Angelini adds. If a Marine requests to lateral move from an open MOS, he or she must obtain a commanding generals endorsement. It all depends on the needs of the Marine Corps, says Anderson. Lateral moves are not a guarantee. For more information on making a lat move and Marine Corps MOS fields, visit the official MMEA website or talk with your career retention specialist.

The least popular method is via phone, at 3%.Samantha Wallace, Korn Ferry Futurestep North American Market Leader, Technology, commented on the research in a statementThe way bosses communicate with their staff has a huge impact on organizational culture. Millennials grew up using screens as their primary form of interaction, and while online messaging and email are effective, efficient tools, face-to-face communication is needed to create an inclusive culture. When survey respondents were asked how millennial bosses do in the managing up department versus older people, the largest number of them said theyre somewhat worse at it, at 30%. Twenty-two percent said millennial supervisors are somewhat better, 20% said both groups are equally as good at it, while 17% said millennials are much be tter and 11% said theyre much worse. But ability to make an impact on organizational culture also came in first place with 25%.Seventeen percent each chose career progression and ability to work flexibly, respectively, while salary only raked in 5%.Heres how people say millennial bosses can do betterKorn Ferrys research reve aled that the most popular way people said millennial supervisors could improve is to step up their face-to-face communications, at 29%, with 27% saying they could do better at keeping their supervisors completely in the loop with whats going on.The respondents were asked to compare millennial bosses and older ones in terms of how crucial it is for them to be able to visualize rising up the ranks through the next two positions during the management recruitment process.A whopping 49% said this is much more important to millennials and 25% said it was somewhat more important, but only 3% said it was much less significant to this group.

Should I Separate My Business Values From My Personal Values

Should I Separate My Business Values From My Personal Values Hello, this is Laura Lee Rose. I am a speaker,an author, and anexpert in time and project management. I help busy professionals and entrepreneurs create effective systems so that they can comfortably delegate to others, be more profitable, and have time to enjoy life. At the end of the day, I transform the way you run your business into a business you love to run. Todays question comes from a busy professionalShould I separate my business values from my personal values? Should I work with an organization, even if I dont personally agree with what they do? For example, what if a company asks me for help managing their Webreputation and I dont believe in their practices or their product?Whetherself-employed or workingfor a company, most people feel it is imperative to stay aligned with their principles. But what does itreally mean to never stray from ones values during the course of a career? For example, a criminal defense lawyer may assist criminals and get them back on the street. Thats their job but theythemselves are not criminals. They believe in the law.Are they working against their principles? Not necessarily. Theybelieve thatevery person has the right to a fair trial. They believe that people need to be prosecuted under the law and with proper evidence thatis collected in the proper manner. They themselves are law-abiding citizens, even if their clients are not always. Its Rarely That Black and WhiteIf you believe that abusiness or organization is the only show in town, then I can see your dilemma. But we both know thats not really the issue here.If youre worried about working with or for a particular company, you needto make sure you are discounting them for the right reasons and in the right way. One way to do this is to clearly articulate your vision and mission statement. Let potential clients or employe rs know what kind of company you want to work with. Clearly itemize the attributes of your target client/employer.For example I work with high-quality, high-integrity corporations that focus on customer satisfaction. My clients succeed because they are ready for success. My clients deliver what and when they promise. Myclients and I not only follow the wording of our contracts, but also the spirit of ouragreements and I make sure they know that.Live Your Mission StatementIf you clearly articulate your mission statement, then you will attract clients and employers of thecaliber and type you desire, as well asward off those who do not meet your standards.Once you make your goals and expectations known, you have a foundation to work from. For example, say the company you are worried about working with still wants to work with you, even after you have shared your vision. The companyhas told you that titsmission is the saatkorn as yours but you dont see it that way.You can now comfortab ly and diplomatically point out any discrepancies between what the company iscurrently doing and what the company claims its mission is.The company, after all, hasbeen doing the same things the same way for a long time. The company may not seethe discrepancies. You can help the company achieve its goalsand transform itinto a company you respect. On the other hand,if this same company doesnt want to work with you because of your mission statement and goals, then you no longer have to worry about compromising your values.Either way, you have eliminated your dilemma. For more information on everything discussed here, feel free to reach out to me.We canschedule an appointment, and I can get to know more about your unique situation. Qualifications for Veteran Status

Qualifications for Veteran StatusQualifications for Veteran StatusHonorable service in the military typically makes you a veteran for life. To be eligible for the variety of veteran benefits depends upon many elements from time in service, permanent injury. What is a veteran? Title 38 of the Code of Federal Regulations defines a veteran as a person who served in the active military, naval, or air service and who was discharged or released under conditions otherbei than dishonorable. This definition explains that any individual that completed a service for any branch of armed forces classifies as a veteran as long as they were elend dishonorably discharged. Types of Veterans There are different types of veterans, but regardless of the type, they are all veterans. The types of veterans below offer different awards and benefits from home loans, retirement and medical/dental. Other offered benefits allow for retired veterans to have base access and store privilegesand all veterans are offered the GI Bill if they opted in at some point in their career. War Veteran - Any active duty or reserve military member who has been in the area of conflict in another country or surrounding waters in support ofactivity against a national enemy. Combat Veteran - Active duty or reserve military members who experience any level of combat for any duration resulting from offensive, defensive or friendly fire military action involving an enemy in any foreign theater. Retired Veteran Retired veterans serve a minimum of twenty years of active duty or reserve duty. Medically retired veterans receive injuries that prevent them from remaining active duty and are thereby retired regardless of years of service. Retirees are eligible for supplementary federal benefits, privileges, and access to military installations, and some VA services. Disabled Veteran Any former active duty or reserve military member who was injured through combat action or peacetime accident while serving on duty and is permanently injured. The National Importance of Veterans In 1954, President Eisenhower officially changed the name of the holiday from Armistice Day to Veterans Day. Every President has honored ur military members in some fashion since George Washington who wisely stated The willingness with which our young people are likely to serve in any war, no matter how justified, shall be directly proportional to how they perceive the Veterans of earlier wars were treated and appreciated by their nation. George Washington Honor to the soldier and sailor everywhere, who bravely bears his countrys cause. Honor, also, to the citizen who cares for his brother in the field and serves, as he best can, the same cause. Abraham Lincoln I can imagine no more rewarding a career. And any man who may be asked in this century what he did to make his life worthwhile, I think can respond with a good deal of pride and satisfaction I served in the United States Navy. John F. Kennedy Some people liv e an entire lifetime and wonder if they have ever made a difference in the world, but the Marines dont have that problem. Ronald Reagan Why We Recognize the Veteran A popular veteran phrase often seen on Veterans DayA veteran whether active duty, discharged, retired, or reserve is someone who, at one point in his or her life wrote a blank check to their government for an amount of up to and including his or her life. Another classic veteran quote that demonstrates the many freedoms that we have the veteran is responsible for defending - even with his/her life if necessary. It is the soldier, not the reporter, who has given us freedom of the press. It is the soldier, not the poet, who has given us freedom of speech. It is the soldier, not the organizer, who gave us the freedom to demonstrate. It is the soldier who salutes the flag, who serves beneath the flag and whose coffin is draped by the flag, who allows the protester to burn the flag. Father Dennis Edward OBrien, USMC W e Sleep Peacefully At Night - Thanks to the Veteran We sleep soundly in our beds because rough men stand ready in the night to visit violence on those who would do us harm. 5 Quick Tips for a 5-page SES CDP Resume5 Quick Tips for a 5-page SES CDP Resume5 Quick Tips for a 5-page SES CDP Resume 5 Quick Tips for a 5-page SES CDP ResumeBy Nicole Schultheis, JD, Senior SES Writer / ConsultantThe Resume Place, Inc., andTen Steps to a Federal Job Certification ProgramJune 14, 2017Are you struggling with resume revisions while preparing to apply for a 5-page, resume-only, Senior Executive ServiceCandidate Development Program announcement?See a sample announcementThe US Secret Service is posting their SES CDP announcement now, open until 6/23/2017https//www.usajobs.gov/GetJob/ViewDetails/471599000Application instructionsThe application process used to recruit for this program is the RESUME-ONLY method. Although you should not address the Executive Core Qualifications (ECQs) or Technical Qualifications (TQs) separately, evidence of each must be clearly reflected in your resume.Your resume must not exceed five pages. Any information in excess of 5 pages WILL NOT b e considered. Please note that if a titelseite letter is submitted, it will count towards the 5 page limit.Do not submit separate statements addressing the ECQs and/or the TQs.Nicole Schulthies Top Five Tips for your5 page SES CDP Federal ResumeONE. Use clear, simple, and direct language. Use first person implied, steer clear of jargon, and replace buzz words with real words. Get rid of useless adjectives and adverbs and use strong, interesting nouns and verbs instead. Use active (Led $4M program) not passive voice (Was responsible for).TWO. Display real leadership accomplishments especially those at the program or enterprise level and describe them in leadership terms. In other words, no helped, supported, was tasked to etc. Synopsize them in CCAR (Challenge-Context-Actions-Results) summaries that reveal your actual leadership challenges and your actual leadership actions that delivered mission-focused, organizational outcomes, with at least 1 key example (but preferably 2) alig ned to each of the 5 ECQs subjects.THREE. Use metrics to describe duties and responsibilities as well as organizational outcomes. Size of budget managed? Number of employees supervised? Percentage change achieved through your efforts or what period of time?FOUR. Focus on recent and relevant jobs and accomplishments, devoting most of the job block space to GS-14/15 jobs and accomplishments within the past 10 years, less to jobs/accomplishments at the GS-13 level, and very little to jobs and activities that took place more than 10 years ago or were at even lower levels.FIVE. Respect the eyes and sensibilities of your readers. Which means pay attention to aesthetics, proofread your work, respect white space on the page, and use the right words (for example, its tenets not tenants). Achieve consistent formatting. Use Words tools as well as your own common sense to help you achieve and maintain a consistent style (for example, if it says U.S. in one place it should not say US elsewhere i f it says long-term goals in one place it should not say long term goals somewhere else).*Nicole Schultheis has helped dozens of U.S. Secret Service candidates as well as many other investigatory, legal, and law enforcement candidates across government attain SES certification.
